Driving the school minibus
What precautions or procedures are currently in place intended to make the harm less likely to happen?
Individual drivers receive annual written authorisation from the Headteacher to drive the minibus :
All drivers are over the age of 25 (unless agreed otherwise by the insurance company) and have held a full driving licence for at least two years :
Drivers have the appropriate entitlement to drive a minibus on their driving licence (no more than 16 passengers) :
All drivers have taken the required LEA driver assessment training :
All drivers are regularly re-assessed (at least every 4 years) to maintain their driving skills and standards :
Drivers are instructed not to drive if ill, or affected by alcohol, drugs or medication :
All drivers made aware of the maximum weight limit of the minibus :
Appropriate vehicle insurance in place i.e. to cover all activities undertaken by the minibus :
Licences are regularly scrutinised (at least annually) for assessment of driving offences :
Maximum daily driving distance not exceeded by individual drivers i.e. 200 miles :
Pupils are briefed before the journey begins so that they understand why distracting behaviour is dangerous:
Fire and other emergency evacuation procedures in place and are fully understood by all :
Additional member of staff / escort accompanying party :
A suitable travel and route plan is prepared for each non-routine journey :
All authorised drivers are required to report any circumstance that impairs their ability to drive :
A pre-drive safety check is conducted before every journey :
Minibus keys are kept secure when not in use :
