Summary

A type of pillbox known as a seagull trench, comprises a chevron shaped building which measures c. 6 metres long and c. 2 metres wide. This seagull trench is located against the modern hedgeline c. 75 metres to the north of the E-W runway.

Description: A seagull trench noted on the Defence of Britain Database at ST 965 962, is thought to have formed part of the World War Two Defences of RAF Kemble. The trench is allegedly in Kemble civil parish, Gloucestershire (sic). It is located between the runway and the A429 road, covering the runway. It is thought to have been built between 1940 and 1944, and was said to be extant and in good condition in 1996.
