Are you out traveling and need help ?
Use this section when you are already out traveling. You will find basic tips on what to do if you get lost and need to find your way back. BACK
You get on the wrong bus/train?
Get off at the next stop.
Walk back if possible or cross the road and get on a bus back to original destination.
Contact your support network for help or advice.
Ask the bus driver for advice.
Phone your destination and advise that you will be late.
Ensure you don’t plan your journey to include the last bus or train.
Your bus or train does not come in on time?
Wait for the next bus or train.
Contact your support network for help or advice.
Phone your destination and advise that you will be late.
Contact the bus or train company via telephone for advice on why.
Wait at agreed Safe Place if waiting for a long time.
Ensure you don't plan your journey to include the last bus or train.
Have a book or magazine with you to keep you occupied.
Look at route wise to see when the next bus or train arrives.
You lose something?
Return to the place you last had item.
Report lost item to the police.
Report lost item to the bus or train depot with information of bus number.
Go to agreed safe place and use ICE card details to contact nominated person.
You are approached by a stranger?
Ignore him or her as much as possible.
Walk to identified safe place.
Call support network or ICE number.
Call 999 in the event of them following you.
Use a personal alarm or whistle if you have one (draw attention to yourself).
Inform bus driver or rail official.
Proceed to destination and explain situation.
You don’t have enough money?
Return home to get more money.
Withdraw money from a local cash machine (if able).
Use debit card to purchase ticket if in train station (if able).
Talk to bus driver or train official and explain situation – may be able to give options.
Contact support network to see if money can be dropped off to you, then get next bus/train.
Contact support network for them to provide transport on this occasion.
You forgot something?
Return home to get forgotten item.
Contact support network to see if they can bring it.
If not needed, do without it.
You become anxious or worried?
Call your support network for reassurance.
Listen to some music to divert your anxiety.
Take a few minutes to calm down, you could sit and get a drink.
Go to your identified safe place.
Return home if appropriate to do so.
You have something stolen?
Call 101 to report the stolen item.
Go to your identified safe place and explain what has happened.
Call your support network to let them know.
Return home and ask for help.
You lose your way?
Go to an identified Safe Place (where there is a sticker advertised) and ask for help.
Have your ICE card available for contact information.
Call your support network.
If possible return to a familiar point and restart your journey.
If able, use google maps on your phone and retrace your steps.
You cannot find anyone to ask?
Call your support network or destination for help.
Go to an identified Safe Place (where there is a sticker advertised) and ask for help.
In emergencies call 101 (Police) and explain your situation.
Have you ICE Card available if needed to explain your disability and support needs.
You have a minor accident ?
