Statistics taken from YoungMinds 20181 in 10 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder thats roughly 3 children in every classroom.Half of all mental health problems manifest by the age of 14.1 in 12 young people self-harm at some point in their lives though there is evidence that this could be a lot higher.3 in 4 children with a diagnosable mental health condition do not get access to the support that they need.CAMHS are turning away nearly a quarter 23 of children referred to them for treatment by concerned parents GPs teachers and others.Just 0.7 of the NHS budget is spent on childrens mental health The waiting list to see a school counsellor is on average 6 8 weeks. We cannot offer week-long support. The beginning and end of the week is currently uncovered. We do not have a male school counsellor. Our list of referrals to the school counsellor is growing. At recent house councils each of our 6 houses independently raised concerns about the waiting time to see a school counsellor. We have a new student Wellbeing Action Group who meet regularly to discuss priorities of mental health and wellbeing at Kingdown. Their current project is to develop the application for the Local Youth Network for counselling provision at Kingdown. They have met to discuss needs to prepare a presentation if needed and are willing to meet with members of the panel to discuss.
