Issue Summary

CATG - Traffic Flow Upavon

Latest Update

13/04/2018 13:38:09 Thank you for raising your issue with the Area Board. The Council has set up a way for local people to decide local highway improvement priorities. A local community area transport group (CATG) of local people and elected councillors comes together to consider issues and proposals and to recommend those schemes that can be taken forward in any year. With the support of the parish council, it will be submitted to the CATG for consideration. The CATG will then decide whether it should go forward onto the list of priority schemes. Resources are very limited, so it is important that schemes are prioritised in this way. Obviously, not all schemes can be taken forward and some proposals may have to wait a while before they become a priority for funding. The CATG makes recommendations to the Area Board who will decide which schemes will be funded and taken forward. We will keep you informed of progress as we go through the steps outlined.

Issue

Traffic Flow in Upavon. The Parish Council is receiving several reports from Villagers who are concerned about Traffic in and around the Village. In particular the junction of the A342A345 Andover Road Give Way junction. There have been several incidents of near misses when vehicles have failed to Give Way to traffic from the High Street who have the right of way. No injuries reported as yet but vehicles have met and sustained damage. The problem seems to be although the line of site coming down Andover Road is OK a large number of drivers do not seem to slow down or be prepared to stop at the junction. We fear that matters will be made worse when the present empty Garage Site is developed. Four Houses are due to be built soon. This will mean there will be residents children dogs etc close to this point. In addition.. There are soon to be more Army personel at Trenchard Lines camp and there will be a coesponing increase in traffic using Andover Road at busy times. Therefore we would like a site visit from the Highways and Traffic control officer to survey and give advice and suggestions. One thought that I have had is FLASHING warning signs on the approach to the junction on Andover Road. A lot of drivers who use this route on a regular basis tend not to notice signs after awhile. A FLASING sign however cannot be ignored. The other issue in the Village is the short slip roads that form the One Way system. It has been noted on a quite regular basis that vehicles approaching the A342A345 junction from the Pewsey direction and turning RIGHT into the No Entry part of the slip road instead of passing this point and take the correct Right Turn just past Triangle House... There are NO ENTRY signs but they are badly positioned.... Also drivers approaching the slip road from the A342 Devizes Road direction often do NOT stop at the Junction next to the Antelope Inn Upavon Parish Council would welcome advice and action on all of the above points.
