Issue Summary

CATG A3098

Latest Update

21/03/2018 13:32:01 Westbury Town Council would like the Wiltshire Highways Officer to visit the area to see if there is anything they can do to improve visibility around the crossing point and to prevent people parking by the crossing. Westbury Town Council would not agree to double yellow lines in this area, however would consider white lines or some kind of road markings by the crossing that does not require a traffic order. This item will now be discussed at CATG

13/03/2018 15:47:33 Thank you for raising your issue with the Area Board. The Council has set up a way for local people to decide local highway improvement priorities. A local community area transport group (CATG) of local people and elected councillors comes together to consider issues and proposals and to recommend those schemes that can be taken forward in any year. Before the CATG can consider a proposal, it must first consult the local parish or town council. Only if the parish supports the issue will it be considered further. If your issue is supported by the parish council, it will be submitted to the CATG for consideration. The CATG will then decide whether it should go forward onto the list of priority schemes. Resources are very limited, so it is important that schemes are prioritised in this way. Obviously, not all schemes can be taken forward and some proposals may have to wait a while before they become a priority for funding. The CATG makes recommendations to the Area Board who will decide which schemes will be funded and taken forward. We will keep you informed of progress as we go through the steps outlined.

Issue

There are two roundabouts on the A3098 in Westbury near where I live. One near to the Leigh Park Community centre and another that leads off to Camargue Road. There is a crossing across this road - one used by children to get to parks and the like. The crossing is near a stream. Recently residents have started parking on the A3098 - one van particularly parks such that it obscures the natural view from the crossing to the Camargue Road roundabout. This is in my view incredibly dangerous. I count myself as a sensible adult but nearly crossed in front of a car. And cars do drive very quickly down the A3098. I feel there is a strong case for double yellow lines around the crossing - on both sides.Given the speed at which cars are travelling its an accident waiting to happen.
