Issue Summary

CATG - Footpath - Ashdown Estate

Latest Update

09/05/2018 08:34:04 Dear Nicola, The new path provided as part of the Ashdown Copse estate is of standard width. The old path to Ashdown Terrace is very narrow in places and there are no dropped kerbs at Church Lane or Ashdown Terrace. Our highways engineers advised that the path could be widened by cutting back earth that had encroached onto the path. This would be a large task that Parish Steward could not undertake easily and it would require traffic management. Our highways engineers have been asked to provide an estimate to provide Pedestrian Improvement, including dropped kerbs for Church Lane and Ashdown Terrace, raised kerb at former entrance and improvement to footway quality. Very best wishes, Marc Read

08/03/2018 07:56:51 Thank you for raising your issue with the Area Board. The Council has set up a way for local people to decide local highway improvement priorities. A local community area transport group (CATG) of local people and elected councillors comes together to consider issues and proposals and to recommend those schemes that can be taken forward in any year. Before the CATG can consider a proposal, it must first consult the local parish or town council. Only if the parish supports the issue will it be considered further. If your issue is supported by the parish council, it will be submitted to the CATG for consideration. The CATG will then decide whether it should go forward onto the list of priority schemes. Resources are very limited, so it is important that schemes are prioritised in this way. Obviously, not all schemes can be taken forward and some proposals may have to wait a while before they become a priority for funding. The CATG makes recommendations to the Area Board who will decide which schemes will be funded and taken forward. We will keep you informed of progress as we go through the steps outlined.

CATG Action / Recommendation

Issue

No safe path route from the new ashdown estate into town. The path is far too narrow to be walking along with young children with the big lorries coming past especially as none of the traffic seem to take notice of the 30mph speed limit either. Safety barriers along would also be useful.
