Issue

Steeple Ashton Parish Council request a pair of SLOW HORSES type signs to be erected at Ashton Common Steeple Ashton either side of Newhouse Farm BA14 6DY. The road at that point is the National Speed Limit of 60mph and a couple of years ago the Parish Council wanted to see whether there could be a reduction in the speed limit. A metro count was done and the decision was that the 60mph limit would stay as it was. The Parish Council would now like to see warning signs in place for the sake of safety.

Street / Location

Ashton Common Steeple Ashton

Electoral Division

Summerham and Seend

Issue Duration

Who is Affected

Horses are regularly crossed over the road to the fields. Previously the farm owners have erected their own signs which were not approved by Highways as they wanted drivers to be aware that horses are being crossed over the road at that point.

What has been done so far

Steeple Ashton Parish Council met on site with Mark Stansby and Cllr Seed a couple of years ago to see whether the 30mph speed limit could be extended to include the point where the horses are crossed. A metro count was done and the decision was that the 60mph limit would stay as it was.

What would resolve issue

The Parish Council would now like to see warning signs in place for the sake of safety. We are not asking the Area Board to fund this request.

Who needs to come together

Steeple Ashton Parish Council. Councillor Seed has been made aware of these issues before and approved signage was one of the suggestions.
