CATG Action / Recommendation

Issue

WashpoolCommon Platt Traffic calming. Various traffic measures have been carried out along the road serving WashpoolCommon Platt from the junction with Stone Lane to the junction with Tewkesbry Way Metro counts and deployment of SIDS equipment. The results and effects have not made any difference to the quantity and very high speeds of through traffic which makes the road a Rat Run for both cars and heavy goods vehicles. Some form of traffic calming is required.

Issue Location

Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade

Street / Location

Washpool Common Platt

Electoral Division

Wootton Bassett East

Issue Duration

Many years and increasing daily.

Who is Affected

Residents of the Parish and especially those that live in and along the route and to a lesser degree those that pass through.

What has been done so far

Local residents have raised the issue on many occasions with their local Parish Councillor who has raised at the Parish meetings. As a Parish Council we have engaged with County and had Metro counts carried out and had deployment of SIDS equipment without much success of slowing traffic down.

What would resolve issue

Some form of physical traffic calming to be looked into and installed along the route baring in mind that there has just been a major housing development constructed at Ridgeway Farm Stone Lane end of the problem road that means that a lot more traffic is finding the way around with many HGVs illegally coming this way which means a lot more risk of accidents.

Who needs to come together

The groups that need to come together should be Wiltshire Council, Lydiard Millicent Parish Council and have the works carried out by the Counties term contractor.
