Issue Summary

CATG - Speeding Marlborough Road Everleigh

Latest Update

09/05/2018 08:26:37 Dear Denis, This issue was discussed at the recent Community Area Transport Group, and we now await clarification of the position of the Parish Council before any further action can be taken. Very best wishes, Marc Read

20/02/2018 13:12:03 Marc: Thank you for your response. Viewed from Everleigh, the current situation on the speeding/speed limit issue on Marlborough Road, Everleigh, has been well captured by Alison Whiteman in her e-mail below (highlighted in red). As notified previously, Everleigh Parish Council will engage with Alison and Marlborough Road residents again in 3-4 months time, ie in early May, in order to review the matter. Please keep this issue live until further notice.

05/02/2018 09:09:08 Dear Denis, I have spoken to our highways officer, Gareth Rogers, this morning who says: Wiltshire Councilís policy on the setting of Speed Limits is based around the Department for Transport guidance given in Circular 01/13: Setting Local Speed Limits, and Traffic Advisory Leaflet 01/04; Village Speed Limits. In the case for a 30mph restriction, these documents outline that a significant level of development should be present to aid driver awareness of the need for a limit of this level. It recommends that there should be a minimum of 20 properties with frontage access, over a length of 600m, and that the frontage development should average a minimum of three properties per 100m. Unfortunately, Marlborough Road doesnít provide this level of development and consequently a 30mph limit cannot be considered. I hope this provides clarification, even if not the answer you were hoping for. Best wishes, Marc Read

CATG Action / Recommendation

The traffic travels to fast through this village. My cottage is on a corner and everyday I reverse out Im met my speeding cars appearing suddenly around the corner. At 50 Mph the breeding distance is 175 feet. This does not leave enough space for me to manoeuvre safely especially as Im reversing into traffic. Many of these cars are travelling well in excess of 50mph
