Latest Update

11/10/2017 10:17:13 Westbury Town Council supports the investigation into the viability of a residents parking scheme and further suggests that Westbury Swimming Pool provides notices to direct visitors to local public car parks where there is currently time limited free parking.

31/08/2017 07:12:25 1. Thank you for raising your issue with the Area Board. The Council has set up a way for local people to decide local highway improvement priorities. A local community area transport group (CATG) of local people and elected councillors comes together to consider issues and proposals and to recommend those schemes that can be taken forward in any year. Before the CATG can consider a proposal, it must first consult the local parish or town council. Only if the parish supports the issue will it be considered further. If your issue is supported by the parish council, it will be submitted to the CATG for consideration. The CATG will then decide whether it should go forward onto the list of priority schemes. Resources are very limited, so it is important that schemes are prioritised in this way. Obviously, not all schemes can be taken forward and some proposals may have to wait a while before they become a priority for funding. The CATG makes recommendations to the Area Board who will decide which schemes will be funded and taken forward. We will keep you informed of progress as we go through the steps outlined.

CATG Action / Recommendation

Text below from emailed complaint from residents association of Church Street in Westbury - I am writing to express my concern at the continual reduction in parking spaces available to residents of Church Street. In the 8 years that I have lived here we have gradually lost as many as 10 spaces previously available to us - 2 on Church Street 3 on lower Chantry Lane and up to 5 on upper Chantry Lane since the introduction of double yellow lines. In the past there has been an understanding with Pinniger Finch solicitors that residents could use its car park between 5pm and 8am and at weekends. The reduction in available on street parking has resulted in more cars needing to use this car park so a permit system has recently been introduced. These permits are limited in number and even so its not always possible to find space there these days.As you would expect for a historic part of the town at least 16 properties on Church Street do not have garages or dedicated off street parking and are reliant on finding space in the immediate vicinity - this is becoming less and less possible and is made worse by non-residents working in the town using the street for free parking.
