Issue Summary

Speeding in Homington Rd Coombe Bissett

Latest Update

07/04/2017 11:44:58 I will ask for input from highways and get back to you.

CATG Action / Recommendation

I have an acute speeding problem outside my house. I am the middle one of a row of 3 cottages built close to the road about 100 years ago. Despite being well within the 20mph zone - the reason I thought it safe to buy a house with its main entrance on the road - I find that I am increasingly scared to use my front door. Cars are speeding along here from 5am to 2am. It is practically single carriageway and cars often have to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision. Many cars cant slow down in time. Even the local Wheeler bus speeds past at up to 40mph There is simply not enough deterrent to stop speeding cars. Its frightening living here.

Who is Affected

The residents of Homington Road from the start of the 20mph zone into Coombe Bissett from Homington. In particular myself and my immediate neighbours have to come out onto the road from our front doors. It is becoming too dangerous to use my front door for fear of being struck by a speeding car having to swerve.

What has been done so far

I have called the council and the police non-emergency. I have sat outside trying to record number plates but most cars are going to fast for the camera to be able to focus in time to take a photo.

What would resolve issue

I would like to see metro count strips placed right outside my house number 2 Tottens Farm Cottage Homington Road SP5 4NF.I would allow access onto my land for this purpose. Ideally I would love to see speed cameras up- the council would get a decent revenue from it.

Who needs to come together

With the support of the council and traffic enforcement officers from the police, my neighbours and I would be happy to help when we're not working. I have tried to contact my councillor but as yet he seems disinclined to return my calls.
