11. Have you or do you intend to apply for a grant from another area board within this financial year?
12. If so, which Area Boards?
13. Please tell us WHO will benefit and HOW they will benefit from your project benefit your local community?
The Salisbury South Wilts Scouts District covers a geographical area which encompasses the whole of the Southern Wiltshire Area Board. There are scout groups at Alderbury Downton Laverstock Old Sarum and Winterslow plus Explorer Scout Units at Alderbury Laverstock and Winterslow. The minibus is available to them and is used by them to access activities such as attendance at camps activity centres hiking locations and other visits. Areas travelled to include all parts of Wiltshire and adjoining counties London Wales and Scotland. Travelling together in a minibus encourages comradeship and alleviates the need for numerous cars and drivers to transport members and to ensure all arrive together. It provides our volunteer leaders with the necessary equipment to carry out exciting activities for young people and is a form of showing they are appreciated by providing such resources. Additionally the minibus is available for use by other voluntary and charitable groups. Those that have or currently use it are amongst others who all have a catchment area covered by Southern Wiltshire Area Board GirlGuildingUK Alabare Christian Care Salisbury Lifestyles for vulnerable adults Salisbury Festival Chernobyl Childrens Holidays and Mencap. We encourage our volunteer drivers to take part in MiDAS Minibus Drivers Awareness Scheme supported by RoSPA and the Driving Standards Agency to ensure safety and acceptable driving practices. The benefits of owning such a vehicle as opposed to hiring are great. The minimum period of hire for a commercially hired vehicle is 24 hours with collection and return times usually in office hours. This is not convenient to many of our volunteer drivers who are in full time employment. Our minibus can be used for the minimum of time necessary maybe just a few hours during an evening and can be collected and returned at any time and without the expense of commercial hire charges.
14. How will you monitor this?
The continued use of the vehicle by our members and other charitable and voluntary groups will indicate that the project has been a success.
15. If your project will continue after the Wiltshire Council funding runs out, how will you continue to fund it?
The funding is towards a one off payment for the purchase of a minibus.
16. If this application forms part of a larger project (eg. building of new village hall), please state what this project is and approximately how much the overall project will cost.
