Description: Second World War defences can be seen to the south-west of Melksham, along the southern bank of the Avon, in Whaddon and at strategic points along the Kennet and Avon canal. These include pillboxes and road blocks, some of which survive. The defences were part of the anti-invasion GHQ Line Green and GHQ Line Blue and formed the Whaddon Defence Area.
