Walking behind a bus
Never walk behind a bus. The driver may not be able to see you.

Walking in front of a bus
Never walk directly infront if a stationary bus, the driver may not be able to see you.

Island Crossing
Traffic does not have to stop to let you cross onto the island, so wait for the road to be clear. Once on the island, don’t assume traffic will see you waiting to make the next crossing. Try not to wait standing directly behind the beacon as this reduces drivers’ visibility of you.

Lollipop Patrol
To stop the traffic the patrol person will lift their stop sign (the lollipop) and cause the traffic to stop. Once traffic is stopped in both directions, the patrol will step into the middle of the road, and will assist you to cross the road.

Zebra Crossing
Stand and wait on the pavement next to the Zebra crossing, look left and right and wait for the traffic to stop in both directions. When the traffic on both sides of the road has stopped, you may walk across to the other side. Try to avoid loitering around the crossing points if you do not intend to cross.

Loosing an item
If you lose something which belongs to you and it travels into the road. You must not rush into the road to retrieve it.

No Pavement or footpath
If there is no footway or footpath, walk on the right-hand side of the road so you can see oncoming traffic, keep close to the side of the road. It may be safer to cross the road well before a sharp right-hand bend so that oncoming traffic has a better chance of seeing you. Cross back after the bend.

Safety Barriers
Where there are barriers, cross the road only at the gaps provided for pedestrians. Do not climb over the barriers or walk between them and the road.

Do not play near a road
It is not safe to play ball games on or close to a road. It can also be seen as an offence by the police.

Use cycle lanes
It is illegal to cycle on a pavement alongside a road, unless it has been marked as a cycle track. Use a cycle path if available.

Blind bends and corners
Crossing over the road on bends and corners is not recommended. You need to be able to see if there is any traffic coming from both directions far into the distance.

Keep away from Railway Lines
Do not play near or on railway lines. Never take a short cut across the tracks. Railway lines are very dangerous and you will also be caught for trespassing.

Crossing between parked cars
It is dangerous to cross between parked cars, traffic will not be able to see you.
