CATG Action / Recommendation

Issue

This issue has been raised by residents unable to get between their homes and the local facilities due to the poor accessibility issues as the steps do not have any handrails.

Issue Location

Salisbury

Street / Location

Footpath 37 between Cheshire Close and St. Michaels Road

Electoral Division

Salisbury Bemerton

Issue Duration

The steps were unfortunately not built with handrails thought to date back to the 1980s.

Who is Affected

Footpath is regularly used by users of all ages.

What has been done so far

The steps have been inspected by Wiltshire Council and found in need of rectification works.

What would resolve issue

Install a handrail on the left hand side using a simple Kee Klamp arrangement which could be set into discreet concrete footings set just outside of the steps. And spray a 50mm wide yellow band across the ends of the slabs to act as a contrasting nosing. These works are considered to be reasonably affordable and as such form the first of two requests.
