CATG Action / Recommendation

04/09/2017 16:50:35 Resident has contacted me previously about this matter and I advised to raise this issue. Marlborough TC will be contacted to confirm a new Metrocount at this location to measure speed. Once results received back, suitable measures can be looked at.

Issue

Traffic leaving and entering Marlborough on the road to Ramsbury is routinely exceeding the 30 mph limit. Previous metro counts recorded that that the majority of traffic was exceeding the limit and a significant proportion of that traffic was doing more than 45mph. My personal observation is that I often see cars exceeding 50 mph. The road is relatively narrow with a very narrow pavement on one side of the road. It is used by many people including groups of walkers and people pushing buggies. There is a sharp bend at the bottom of the hill and the excessive speed is dangerous - as well as illegal. I am concerned that there will be an incident that is caused by drivers going too fast and would like to see something done to reduce the risk. This issue has been looked at previously and some sort of speed camera was installed on a rota but that has now stopped. Villages on this road ramsbury and Mildenhall have installed SIDs and I believe should consider this and other traffic calming measures before a serious accident causes the issue to be addressed.

Issue Location

Marlborough

Street / Location

Poulton Hill Marlborough

Electoral Division

Marlborough East

Issue Duration

Several years previously measured by a metro count but no action taken despite the data

Who is Affected

Everybody living on and using Poulton Hill

What has been done so far

Previously reported to Andrew Jack at Wiltshire CC and metro counts set up leading to the Wiltshire SID being set up on rota basis for 2 weeks at a time but that has now stopped and issue appears to be worse as road is busier.

What would resolve issue

Install SIDs in both directions and look at other measures like speed reducing islands.

Who needs to come together

I would assume its Marlborough and Wiltshire councils, but there may be other organisations who have responsibility for road safety.
