Issue Summary

CATG Chalford Westbury

Latest Update

11/10/2017 10:16:45 Response from Westbury Town Council is that they would support community speed watch if a suitable and safe site can be established. The Town Council would consider supporting other traffic calming measures ie rumble strips if CATG would like to advise on likely costs Highways Officer will provide costings for such a scheme and update in due course.

30/08/2017 10:10:23 Thank you for raising your issue with the Area Board. The Council has set up a way for local people to decide local highway improvement priorities. A local community area transport group (CATG) of local people and elected councillors comes together to consider issues and proposals and to recommend those schemes that can be taken forward in any year. Before the CATG can consider a proposal, it must first consult the local parish or town council. Only if the parish supports the issue will it be considered further. If your issue is supported by the parish council, it will be submitted to the CATG for consideration. The CATG will then decide whether it should go forward onto the list of priority schemes. Resources are very limited, so it is important that schemes are prioritised in this way. Obviously, not all schemes can be taken forward and some proposals may have to wait a while before they become a priority for funding. The CATG makes recommendations to the Area Board who will decide which schemes will be funded and taken forward. We will keep you informed of progress as we go through the steps outlined.

Issue

If you know this area you will know we have no parking and our house literally looks onto the main road A350 leading out of Westbury towards Warminster. This road carries EXTREMELY heavy traffic constantly. As we have no parking we are constantly having our car hit wing mirrors knocked off. But one of our large concerns is having a 2 year old and coming out onto that road to get him in and out the car. We have a big concern with the speed of the cars that are coming up and down that road to the point where I was nearly hit this morning with my son by someone who clearly was doing at least 60 in a 30. This is constant. It also creates more road noise for us in the house. But I am really worried about how fast people are going and how am I going to be able to safely get my son and myself in and out of the car. Is there anything that can be done in terms of traffic control I understand that you cannot provide us safe parking. Or is this something that could be looked into And how do you go about speed cameras or some sort of help I genuinely am losing sleep over it and we are not in a financial position to ever move to solve the problem for ourselves.
