Latest Update

07/02/2018 14:20:16 Traffic Speed Survey Result Audley Road, Chippenham (30mph Speed Limit) - Near Loyalty Street The Results of the survey for the area of Audley Road are provided below. The survey was carried out between 11/09/2017 and 24/09/2017. A total of 31157 vehicles were checked. The 85th percentile was 27.5mph (the 85th percentile is the speed at which 85% of the traffic is travelling at or below). The average speed was 22.7mph. As with every other department, we have to target our limited resources to where they will be most effective and as such I would remind you that unless there are exceptional circumstances we will not accept another count request for this location or close surrounding area for another 12 months. For your information the thresholds for interventions are below; Community Speed Watch does not operate in any speed limit above 40mph. In a 30mph speed limit the following criteria will be applied; 30 to 35mph 85th percentile = No Further Action (NFA) 35.1 to 42 mph 85th percentile = eligible for Community Speed Watch Over 42 mph 85th percentile = Subject to Police enforcement Any other results in higher speed limits will be discussed on their individual basis and merit. We hear and see speeding vehicles and motorbikesmopeds every day outside our property - Audley Road Chippenham. The mopeds are revved deliberately and are antisocial as well as dangerous. we have double glazing and even with windows shut blackout blinds and curtains the vehicles zooming past wake up our toddler.

Who is Affected

public residents pedestrians children other road users

What has been done so far

I am raising the issue here.

What would resolve issue

Similar residential and family neighbourhoods such as Cepen Park or Pewsham have traffic calming measures there is a church Sheldon Road Methodist Church which runs childrens activities a corner shop and park on Audley Road and the traffic needs to be slower else there will be a fatality. I have already heard and witnessed the aftermath of a road accident between a motorbike and a car coming out of the junction between Loyalty Street and Audley Road outside my home. Luckily the motorcyclist survived and no pedestrians were involved. I would therefore like speed bumps or other calming measures in place as well as further signs indicating this area is 20 or 30 and that cars should not park on cornersjunctions so that drivers cannot see when they pull out.
