Issue Summary

CATG - Concealed entrance on a bend in Sedgehill

Latest Update

23/08/2017 12:06:58 On agenda for Community Areas Transport Group meeting - Wed 13th September 2017, 2pm at the Nadder Centre in Tisbury.

14/08/2017 11:18:30 Parish Council asked for input and received: This location has been a major concern for years and years. The owner of Hayes House has written to the W. Cllr. Bridget Wayman and this has been an SSPC agenda item on a number of occasions. The Parish Council agree totally this is a dangerous entrance as is the whole of the A350 which runs through our Parish being a very dangerous road. I believe SSPC would fully support reduction in speed limit along this road. With regards to warning signs to Hayes House, I believe the PC would support an application for warning signs, but would have to check about match funding as this is a private entrance. It has been strongly recommended by the Parish Council and Highways to consider enlarging vision display, firstly by cutting back trees and hedges.

09/08/2017 16:57:37 Issue received and referred to Highways for initial response.

CATG Action / Recommendation

Issue

Hays House nursing home and Hays Park Retirement Complex are located just off of The Turnpike A350 and has a hiddenconcealed entrance which is on a bend. The retirement complex is independent living and elderly people are driving in and out of the entrance daily. The A350 that they pull out on to is a 60mph road with no mirrors or signs warning drivers of this concealed entrance and there has been 3 accidents in the last 6 months where elderly drivers have pulled out onto the road and into oncoming traffic. The last accident was Tuesday 1st August and was almost fatal with a Mother and her young children having to be cut out of their vehicle by the fire brigade. Staff at Hays House Nursing Home are very concerned about this entrance and would like some signage put in place to warn drivers on the A350 to slow down or warn them of the concealed entrance.
