Issue Summary

Pedestrian safety at crossing on A4 at Manton

Latest Update

11/09/2017 16:21:04 There has been a lot of work done to the site surrounding this pedestrian crossing. This includes overhanging trees being cut, road signs being cleaned and made more visible, metal barriers at the roadside being replaced, leaves and detritus being removed and road surface marking being make clearer. White lining around this area is also being renewed to make this crossing more clear to drivers. Together with the police colleagues being on site and with working with the school on road safety education, we feel that all that can be done has happened at this site. Therefore this issue will be closed.

30/03/2017 14:33:17 Wiltshire Councils Road Safety Team have been contacted. They have made a site visit to this crossing to see the situation with traffic, pedestrians and the crossing itself. They have made a number of recommendations about tidying up the crossing and making it more obvious to approaching drivers. They have also offered to work with Preshute School on road safety training for pupils and parents. I have contacted local police. They have agreed to visit this location and make observations. Their presence will hopefully make drivers slow down and stop for the red light. Police have also offered to contact drivers jumping the red light if full registration numbers can be obtained. Police can be contacted with these registration numbers on 101. Wiltshire Councils Cabinet member for Highways is also looking at this issue and a number of improvements to the crossing have been discussed to make it more obvious to approaching drivers based on Road Safetys recommendations. Where those changes need additional funding, this can be considered at the next Marlborough Community Area Transport Group meeting on 22/06/17

16/03/2017 11:40:43 Details about this situation have been sent to Wiltshire Councils Road Safety Manager for further input.

14/03/2017 11:05:51 There have been six issues reported in the last week covering this subject. Details have been passed to the local Highways engineer for input and suggested solutions. Details can be passed on as they come in.
